Six of the top 10 global startup acquirers are based in Silicon Valley. But which sectors and regions are leading the charge? Alphabet Inc. (Google) leads the pack with 222 acquisitions, followed by Microsoft and Cisco.
Among the top 15 companies, only four are non-American: Siemens (Germany), Accenture (Ireland), Roche (Switzerland) and Samsung Electronics(South Korea). Accenture is the only non-technology company among the top 10 acquirers.

Regional insights:
• North American companies acquire startups at a rate four times higher than European companies and 7-10 times higher than Asian companies.
• Silicon Valley companies alone completed 814 startup acquisitions, accounting for 33% of the total, equivalent to one-third of acquisitions made by Fortune Global 500 companies.
Profile of acquired startups:
• 46% of startups are acquired after 6 years of being founded. 35% of acquisitions involve companies that are 6-10 years old, while less than 20% are of more mature startups.
